a journey to ex-MAJAPAHIT KINGDOM

Majapahit was a vast archipelagic empire based on the island of Java from 1293 to around 1500. Majapahit reached its peak of glory during the era of Hayam Wuruk, whose reign from 1350 to 1389 marked by conquest which extended through Southeast Asia, with influence to present day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, the Philippines, and East Timor. His achievement is also credited to his prime minister, Gajah Mada.

Majapahit was one of the last major empires of the region and is considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful empires in the history of Indonesia and Southeast Asia, one that is sometimes seen as the precedent for Indonesia's modern boundaries. Its influence extended beyond the modern territory of Indonesia and has been a subject of many studies. German orientalist Berthold Laufer suggested that maja came from the Javanese name of Indonesian tree.

well, trip to Trowulan was inspired by a young talented famous photographer woman who has held a photo exhibition at fashion mall in Jakarta. I was amazed eyes on a photo where the photo was a woman who posed next to a large Buddhist statue asleep, in caption writing that it was taken in area named Trowulan, majapahit.

My journey began from the city of Jogya. My friend and I departed from Giwangan Bus station - Jogja at 8 am use a bus heading to Surabaya. We both didn't think that our trip should take approximately 6.5 hours.

This trip just as same as travel time from jakarta to jogja use train. You should remember if you want to go to this place, when u entered the town mojoagung, then you should be ready and prepared to enter the city Trowulan. Your eyes should always be ready to look into the lane because there will be signage where there is big writing: MAHA VIHARA MAJAPAHIT. or it will be better if you depart from surabaya.

When we came to Trowulan at 3:30 pm. The atmosphere there was dark and drizzly, I think almost everyone who has ever come here said that the weather here is always dark and drizzle.

MAHA VIHARA MAJAPAHIT located in residential areas are predominantly brass metal artisans. No wonder if you walk and look at houses surrounding people, then you will easily find a Buddhist statue, made of brass.

Our trip to the location of the monastery is only available on signage. The distance from the roadside gate to the temple about 500 meters. When we reached the gate of the monastery, Buddhist sculpture sleep was evident. altho' I only saw his great legs.

We immediately asked for permission to the guards to enter the sleeping area and saw the Buddhist statue. We went straight through the camera to capture those moments that we had brought, eventho' the weather didn't support cus of overcast and drizzle.

After that we immediately went to see the look of surrounding buildings, and eventually we passed a house where there are many statues on the pages that are already familiar to me like the statue of the goddess Kwan Im, a statue of sun go kong, and the statue of na cha (the usual female warriors using weapons large bangle).

When we entered the house, we feel a different aura, room smelling, musty and immediately made me dizzy. Inside the house there's a statue of monk tong (monk who lead the way from China to India to take holy book). The house also turns out many small urns containing human ashes.

Finally we round out our visit here and we still want to see what in Trowulan. we also had about a half hour waiting for angkot to the famous temples in Trowulan. but unfortunately only the big bus through. we also are discouraged to go to the temple. But my friend told me that unfortunately if we are far away to Trowulan just to see big budha if there are many dozens of Hindu temples here. Finally we decided to go to temples and temple Brahu barrel in the same village with MAHA VIHARA MAJAPAHIT. But, once we see the signs, it seems impossible for us to get there by foot, let alone hours of 5 pm.

How lucky we were, when there are locals who offered to deliver to the temple. Our first destination was the Brawijaya's grave 1. Brawijaya was the last king of kings royal majapahit (at least, that's what I know from google, lol)

After the king's tomb Brawijaya, we decided to go to a hindu temple brahu.WOW ...!! the temple was huge and quite well maintained. but unfortunately the time of the visit which had been closed since we arrived at 5:30 pm. BUT, we dont want to lose the sense, finally my friend and I snuck through a wire fence. funny thing happened here, my friend had fallen when passing through barbed wire as a fairly large body didn't seem able to get through the fence, lol.

After the temple Brahu, we headed to the last temple, the gentong temple. Barrel-shaped temple is located further away from the temple Brahu and its location at the center of the middle of the plantation residents. What may make, barrel-shaped temple has also been shut down, and unfortunately the fence in the temple and the barrel is more difficult to jump over. clock has also show time at 6:30 pm and the atmosphere is quiet, we decided to go home.

Next time, we will return to Trowulan to visit dozens of royal heritage temple majapahit that we haven't visited yet....!!
